Mentor Madness Poker Run / Car & Motorcycle Show
A big thank you!
Mentor Madness would like to express their gratitude to everyone involved in the 2010 Poker Run/ Car & Motorcycle Show at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on August 21st. We had a jam packed day with over two thousand visitors despite the 103’degree heat. Grand Marshall Mickey Jones was a real treat & could not have been more supportive of our efforts along with his wife Phyllis. They spent the day mingling with the community & enjoying the show. Councilman Paul Blatz welcomed everyone to the event and handed the mic to Mickey Jones for a few special words before the Poker Run. One of the highlights of our show was new comer to our valley Hollywood Stuntman Monte Perlin & his Son Sam Wagner. Monte led the Poker Run with a slow Wheelie down the Maricopa Hwy. He then proceeded to wow the crowd in his Globe O Cross with Sam & doing stunts in the parking lot. This was an amazing sight that not many people around here have witnessed before.
We had live music by Studebaker, Blue Vice, Kyle Hunt & The King Gypsy, Rabbit MacKay & Milton Kelly, DJ Ruben & Perry in the morning with the 95.9 Octopus van. You guys rocked! The vendors, over twenty, had a little something for everyone.
The cars & bikes in our show were fabulous, we apologize for stalking some of you to get your vehicles in our show, but you made it that much more special.
Volunteers spent the day selling raffle tickets for the Harley-Davidson Street Bob, Bike support provided by Santa Barbara Harley-Davidson, working the Kiddie Korral equipt with a water slide, staging & judging the cars & bikes, registering people for the poker run & car show, and trying to keep up with all the activities. You did a great job!
The Oak View Civic Council has been with us since the beginning & the entire council participated in our event! The Oak View Women’s Club did a great job running the silent auction & raffle tables for the 2nd time, The Lions Club provided wonderful Tri Tip BBQ sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs & beverages. The Eagles Football had a pancake breakfast which was so good we had requests for the recipe. Ojai Printworks provided our event shirts and went beyond the call of duty. Sports Zone Imaging did all of our wonderful plaques & trophies & show handouts. A big thank you to our official sponsor this year the Ojai AYSO. Special Thanks to St. Thomas Aquinas Church & Joe Silvestri.
Thank you to all of our sponsors & merchants who sold tickets, donated items to the raffles & supported our efforts to do something for the kids. Mentoring is our passion. It means a lot to have your support in these economic times. The kids will benefit greatly by your kindness.
A special thank you to Sunday Ulrich & family, we could not have done it without you. We will have this years event along with all of our sponsors & pictures posted soon on our website, www.HealTheCommunityOjai.com. We will resume meetings this October to begin planning for the 2011 show. We encourage you to get involved in any way you can. You may join us at any time. Become a member!
